SKIN FEED// "Activated Charcoal." // by Kelly Mason

I use Anahata Activate Pure Charcoal for my face, my teeth and to create Natural Art work - I just recently finished a wedding gift made almost entirely of Charcoal for a close friend back in my home land of Cheshire and I use the charcoal on a weekly basis to whiten my teeth and cleanse the pours of my face.

Before we get ahead of ourselves with activated excitement and go straight into the uses of Charcoal as a DIY completely natural beauty and cleansing product, lets firstly shine a light on what it is, how it works and the benefits of this magical natural treat.

Charcoals main role is that it easily traps toxins and chemicals, activated charcoal for natural healing isn't just any old BBQ charcoal - it is product taken from coconut shells or other natural sources.

Ensure that before you digest the charcoal it is made for consumption as this product can be used to purify and filter drinking water. Charcoal can also be used to help aid in stomach bugs and food poisoning as a natural aid alternative.

Many people are now using charcoal for its benefits with the inclusion of reducing bloating, prevention of hang overs, whitening teeth and creating their own natural face masks.

"Activated charcoal works by trapping toxins and chemicals in the body and on the skin surface."

Activated Charcoal Uses

Whitens Teeth

Perfect Natural Whitener. Brightens your teeth wonderfully. I use the Activated Charcoal once a week to keep my teeth white and bacteria free in a natural and cost effective way. It adsorbs plaque and other unwanted leftovers in the mouth that are staining your teeth if you are a drinker of coffee , a smoker or wine drinker.

DIRECTIONS:

Wet your toothbrush and dip into activated charcoal. Brush for a minute. Ensure that you swish plenty of water around your mouth until no leftovers of liquid charcoal is left.

Oil pulling with Organic coconut oil is recommended after using the charcoal to further decrease the amount of bacteria in the mouth.

This practice of Oil pulling I do almost every morning, something which doesn't only benefit my mouth and therefor digestive system it also supports me in my silent morning mindfulness and preparation for meditation.

 Anti-Ageing

An aid in helping to provent cellular damage to kidneys and liver by detoxing the body and purifying it also supports the functioning of the adrenal glands.

Calms Bloating

Take 500 milligrams one hour prior to your meal with a full glass of water. Immediately drink an additional glass of water immediately.

Prevention of Hangovers

The main benefit of activated charcoal is the ability to remove toxins. Alcohol being the toxin ;).

 Digestive Cleanse

The removal of toxins that cause allergic reactions and a poor immune system is what makes activated charcoal a key product for cleansing the digestive system.

External Uses for skin

It can help with the treatment of acne, burns and insect bites and it draws out toxin from the pours of the face.

DIRECTIONS:

Treatment of acne: 1 Tsp of Activated charcoal with 2 Tsp of aloe Vera gel, place over the face. Let dry then rinse.

Treatment of Burns and rashes: 1 Tsp of activated charcoal, ½ tablespoon of coconut oil.

Although Activated Charcoal is indeed a magical natural product, it does come with a few side effects that I would like to make you aware of before you try...

If you do wish to ingest the Charcoal ensure you get the product initially from a reliable source and it does contain details on the label that it can be internal consumed.

In addition ensure that you drinks lots of water and don't eat for a number of hours as it can dehydrate the body and interfere with the absorption of other nutrients and minerals we intake throughout the day.

"Keep using the product only a select number of times throughout the month"

Here I have shared my personal favourite face mask using Activated Charcoal. Something I do three to four times per month. Enjoy.
